Elections

Democrats control House & Senate for first time in more than a decade

It's finally happened. Karl Rove has been felled.

In a surprise to this voter, the Democrats came out strong and saw an election thorough to win a majority in the House and the Senate. It doesn't hurt that we have a huge 8 fingered organic farmer on our side, either (D-MO).

The sad fact I'm sure I'm not the first to tell you is that the gay marriage ban won in 6 of the 7 states in which it was on the ballot. The only sane state, apparently, is AZ.

Cheers, Dems - now get to work.

Pirate for Congress

In Iowa, James Hill, a self-proclaimed drunken pirate, is running for congress, and his website is hilarious.

Here are a couple sections that I think are well beyond awesome:

This entire lay out was designed by my Samoan Body guard A.J. Sorenson at my own expense.

The guy has a friggin Samoan Body guard who is a web desginer. Sweet!!

Do not expect me to get on the band wagon of heart wrenching divisive social subjects. This is how the standard Politicians have kept us distracted while they sold their votes to the highest bidders. I have opinions on everything and many good ideas to be shared thru the campaign. My goal remains to remove the money from politics, by giving you a candidate who takes no money.

Photography 102: Me and The Sky

I'm sorry I haven't posted more pics lately. I assure you I'm trying to produce some decent work. Check out my latest silly pictures!

Garrison Keillor's note to Republicans

Can't...stop...from posting...political...article...

>I see by the papers that the Republicans want to make an issue of Nancy Pelosi in the congressional races this fall: Would you want a San Francisco woman to be Speaker of the House? Will the podium be repainted in lavender stripes with a disco ball overhead? Will she be borne into the chamber by male dancers with glistening torsos and wearing pink tutus? After all, in the unique worldview of old elephants, San Francisco is a code word for g-a-y, and after assembling a record of government lies, incompetence and disaster, the party in power hopes that the fear of g-a-y-s will pull it through in November.

How the 2004 Election was Rigged

The Brad Blog has a conspiracy article concerned with voting machines. I don't know what this means, or what can be done about it if it is significant, but check it out.

In exclusive stunning admissions to The BRAD BLOG some 11 months after the 2004 Presidential Election, a "Diebold Insider" is now finally speaking out for the first time about the alarming security flaws within Diebold, Inc's electronic voting systems, software and machinery. The source is acknowledging that the company's "upper management" -- as well as "top government officials" -- were keenly aware of the "undocumented backdoor" in Diebold's main "GEM Central Tabulator" software well prior to the 2004 election. A branch of the Federal Government even posted a security warning on the Internet.

Democrat Fernando Ferrer Is Candidate for Mayor of NYC

Here's some information about the man who seems to be the Democrats' choice so far to challenge Bloomberg.  This info came from his web site.

Fernando Ferrer is a son of the Bronx and a champion of New York neighborhoods. Raised by his mother, and his grandmother, who worked in the kitchen of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, Ferrer took strength and inspiration from their example. Like generations of New Yorkers past and present, he grew up knowing the value of hard work, family, community, and faith ideals that continue to inform his vision for the City and for its many diverse communities.

Why our Quasimodo couldn't be President

In Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, aka Ukrainian Frankenstein, becomes the President of Ukraine. While our Frankenstein lost the election here. Here is Yushchenko's metamorphosis by Dr. Frankenstein of Chernobyl:

Frankensteins are liberals, and I figure Ukrainians are more liberal than Americans. Their Supreme Court and parliament allowed rerun while ours didn't. If ours did, Dubya would a lost.

Does anyone remember the Ohio recount?

In one of the first big features on the Ohio recount since it began, the [Village Voice uncovers](http://villagevoice.com/issues/0451/perlstein.php) some interesting facts and quite a few conspiracies. They also point out the wave a low morale among liberals and some Democrats.

>The game is still afoot in Ohio. Taking advantage of a state law that allows presidential candidates to request an official recount if they finance it themselves, David Cobb of the Green Party and Michael Badnarik of the Libertarians raised $113,600 in mid November, largely from progressives nearly tapped out after the campaign. Last week, the part-time bureaucrats of Ohio's 88 county boards of elections started slogging through the results once more. Teams of progressive volunteers watching over the recounts began clocking 20-hour days.

Ohio still counting votes

They're still counting in [Ohio](http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/11/29/ohio.vote.ap/index.html), in case you were wondering. I thought it had all but ended there, but I was wrong. A growing number of activists are calling on all people and parties to get votes counted and see to it that all the election problems are dealt with.

>Nearly a month after John Kerry conceded Ohio to President Bush, complaints and challenges about the balloting are mounting as activists including the Rev. Jesse Jackson demand closer scrutiny to ensure the votes are being counted on the up-and-up.

I'd still love to see a huge scandal there.
