Of course! D.C. needs a statue! Now why hasn't anyone in Congress thought of this. Lately there has been much chatter about the need to makeover our international image and to regain the trust of the world. The noble folk of Zitiste, Serbia have come up with an [elegant plan](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6353659.stm) to negate a bad rep and rehabilitate their town's image as a jinxed locale. This did not go unnoticed in the nearby town of Medja which has taken the idea to heart and now plans its [own statue](http://uk.news.yahoo.com/16022007/323/serb-village-erect-monument-famous...). So by logical extension, our lawmakers need to quit spending their time on all the hand-wringing and resolution passing and rather launch a statue initiative.
A ramble of disconnected musingPathetic, Bushie. Instead of sending more soldiers how about sending more engineers. If we want the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people, how about we get the electricity on and the water flowing. What exactly are Bechtel, Carlysle, etc. doing with the bucks we give them and what are the mercenaries doing for the bucks they get from the contractors? Does anyone really think Beckham is going to make the U.S. mad for soccer? Instead of getting all vertutzed over the food supply, how about we eat seasonal vegetables that are produced locally. A couple of months of frozen spinach isn't going to kill anyone. Why does anyone think mass market organic produce is any better or safer than mass market anything else? (Walmart organic !??? in their supertores.)
Blog StyleWhat does everybody think about themed blogs deviating from their theme? [Eggbeater](http://www.eggbeater.typepad.com) is a fantastic cooking/baking themed blog that varies its content wildly. As many technology blogs are personal as aren't. I ask because I posted [something decidedly un-food-related](http://omnivorousfish.com/node/83) on omnivorousfish.com recently, and although I'm not taking it down, it doesn't exactly meet the mission statement of "eating, drinking and opining." Nobody really reads OF, so it doesn't exactly matter, but I like to know everyone's idea of the greater elements.
let's get some shoes, betch
Ivy Baldwin DanceFor its seven-year anniversary, Ivy Baldwin Dance's website got one-hell-of-a facelift. If you’re not familiar with Ivy Baldwin Dance, that's okay. I married Ivy Baldwin, so I hear about these things. And now, there is no good reason why you shouldn’t learn about the disturbing genius I married. Ivy Baldwin was born unto Robert and Judy Baldwin. She was a bright and cantankerous child. Willed. Much of her youth was spent sailing around the Caribbean. Her friends at the time were Henretta and Josephine. Henretta was a seagull. and Josephine was a Baracuda. While in truth Henrietta was actually hundreds of different seagulls that landed on the boat, to Ivy they were all Henrietta; and, yes, there were thousands of silverbacked dagger toothed baracuda following there boat around, but they were all Jospehine to Ivy.
Industrial Society Destroys Mind and EnvironmentIndustrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment Dear Group Members, I want to share my article with you. This is about the link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues. The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature. Subject : In a fast society slow emotions become extinct. Emotion is what we experience during gaps in our thinking. If there are no gaps there is no emotion. Today people are thinking all the time and are mistaking thought (words/ language) for emotion. When society switches-over from physical work (agriculture) to mental work (scientific/ industrial/ financial/ fast visuals/ fast words ) the speed of thinking keeps on accelerating and the gaps between thinking go on decreasing. There comes a time when there are almost no gaps. People become incapable of experiencing/ tolerating gaps. Emotion ends. Man becomes machine. A society that speeds up mentally experiences every mental slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety. A ( travelling )society that speeds up physically experiences every physical slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety. A society that entertains itself daily experiences every non-entertaining moment as Depression / Anxiety. FAST VISUALS /WORDS MAKE SLOW EMOTIONS EXTINCT. SCIENTIFIC /INDUSTRIAL /FINANCIAL THINKING DESTROYS EMOTIONAL CIRCUITS. A FAST (LARGE) SOCIETY CANNOT FEEL PAIN / REMORSE / EMPATHY. A FAST (LARGE) SOCIETY WILL ALWAYS BE CRUEL TO ANIMALS/ TREES/ AIR/ WATER/ LAND AND TO ITSELF. Greenville, SCI'm in Greenville, SC right now, a little town with a cute little downtown area. It's in THE SOUTH, both geographically, and culturally, but it is a town divided. They passed a local ban on gay marriage here (which disqualified them from running the olympic torch through here, I was happy to find out; they drove it through in a van), but there have been rallies and posts up all over town about how the ban is "anti-family" and just bad news all around.
Incidentally, the place is crawling with Lesbians...
Anyway, I don't particularly like the south, if for no other reason than I don't like going places where me having sex is illegal. Grits is usually the highlight, and great iced tea which is becoming increasingly difficult to find (I can say there is a higher concentration of good tea in Tennessee than in SC). This local turmoil, however, kind of warms my heart.
Parents.... WARN YOUR CHILDREN!!!Parents... WARN YOUR CHILDREN!!! We are now on the edge of summer; the trees are green, the flowers are blooming, and the children are out to play. Many dangers exist in the world around your children, including me. I'm tired of these bad ass kids out here steadily harrassing adults as they mind their business. Parents, it is time for you to do your job and teach your kids to fear adults. If you don't, I will!! I am an adult on the edge, just ready to snap and beat the hell out of your kid. I am not scared of correcting little Billy when he starts acting out on the train, and I am certainly not afraid of beating the hell out of little Johnny for calling me fag as I conduct my daily routines.
Tony Snow "hugs the tar baby" - did he really just say that? You may have heard it, you may not have, but regardless if you heard it or not, Tony Snow said it. As many of you know, "hug the tar baby" at one time meant finding yourself trapped (as Tony Snow seemed to have meant it), but since Uncle Remus and the Brer Rabbit tales, it has taken on a much different connotation. Mr. Snow may have been trapped under some church pew since the 40s, but I think not. Tar baby was an inappropriate reference in a *White* House press conference. Ah, domestic wire-tapping, it brings out the best in all of them. >"Again, I would take you back to the USA Today story, simply to give you a little context. Look at the poll that appeared the following day. While there was -- part of it said 51 percent of the American people opposed, if you look at when people said, if there is a roster of phone numbers, do you feel comfortable that -- I'm paraphrasing and I apologize -- but something like 64 percent of the polling was not troubled by it. Having said that, I don't want to hug the tar baby of trying to comment on the program -- the alleged program -- the existence of which I can neither confirm nor deny."
