I got up this morning to find that my newspaper had yet again been heisted from its normal location; on the floor in front of my hotel room door. Undeterred, I made my way to Moose & Sadie's for a cup of coffee. I found a newspaper there and noticed a review of a new movie opening today called [Children of Men](http://www.childrenofmen.net) starring Clive Owen and Directed by [Alfonso Cuarón](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfonso_Cuar%C3%B3n).
The review made me decide to check it out. I needed to see a movie...a good movie.
I can honestly say that I wasn't disappointed -- I loved this movie. Dystopian SciFi done well seems to be hard to come by, especially on the Big Screen, but this movie is beautiful. It is viceral and real in a way that I cannot easily describe.
The way the plot is handled is refreshing -- the nuts and bolts of the tragedy are carefully excluded in order to propel the dramatic notions of portraying a society on the brink of collapse. Who cares how it happened, the interesting thing is to see how the world could very well end -- not with a bang, but with a fizzle -- with a long time for those left behind to ponder where we went wrong.

On DVD finally
At the top of my Netflix Queue and I can't wait! I'm glad I have a big TeeVee so I can enjoy the cinematography.
Children of Men: A Special Film
There is no doubt that CoM is a special film. It has all the classic imagry that fills out a classic and I'm sure it will be remembered as time ticks on. I would not be surprised to see a re-release in 2027, perhaps when the human race is also in a crossroads.
The filmmaker here is Alfonso Cuaron or Prisoner of Azkaban anf Y Tu Mama Tambien fame. I sat in awe of his lack of edits and cuts, of his decision to shoot long sequences without trick photography. The movie has a raw edge to it that gives it a documentary feel with character development.
There are 3 shots in particular that a stunning and if you have not seen it, you should queue it up! The movie is great!
